See the section on Spells for more information. Magic Talents are a special category of profession talents that are needed to cast spells, and generally available only to a Druid or Sorceror. At the start of the game, you get a number of talents – your kin talent, your profession talent, and 1/2/3 general talents (see table above) depending on your age. There are special talents for your kin and profession. Talents are tricks and abilities that give you a small advantage in the game. Skills can be increased throughout the game. You can assign a single point each to any other skills you choose. Skills are on a scale of 0 to 5, but you can only assign up to three points to each of the skills listed for your profession during character creation. Wits – Sensory perception, intelligence, and sanity.Įmpathy – Personal charisma, empathy, and ability to manipulate others. Strength – Raw muscle power, brawn, and stamina.Īgility – Body control, speed, and motor skills. Attributes cannot be increased throughout the game, barring extenuating circumstances. Keep in mind that you take damage directly to Attributes, so much like in Burning Wheel, a particularly low Attribute + bad luck = you get Broken (out of play until healed) more easily. If both Race and Profession have the same Key Attribute, you could thus start with a six if you desired, but none of those points are free, they all come from the above pool. You cannot start higher than 4 or lower than 2, barring your race or profession’s Key Attribute, each of which lets you put one more point in that attribute if you desire. Your starting points to divide into Attributes and Skills are based on the following simple table. Basically younger people will have slightly more attribute points, and fewer skill points. Your age will impact your attributes and skills. The actual years associated with this vary from race to race based on the below table. This is an accurate impression of how Sorcerors are perceived.Īge is divided up into categories – Young, Adult, and Old. Sorceror – Let them stare at you in fear and disgust.Rogue – No one will ever give you what you wish for – to get what you want, you will have to take it for yourself.Rider – The legends say that the animals in the ancient time mocked humans for having only two legs.Peddler – Bargaining, buying for little and selling for more, turning two silvers into three, has always been your way to survive.Minstrel – When the road is long, when the wind is fierce, or the night is black, everyone needs a light in the darkness.Fighter – You have followed the way of the sword as long as you can remember.Druid – Ever since the god Clay shaped the world, you and the brothers and sisters of your order have been tasked with safeguarding nature. The short blurb is flavor text and may or may not apply to you directly, it’s there for a feeling. As you will see they have varying placements in the Job Lifestyle spectrum, and you can even slot yourself in at different points on that spectrum within the profession – some people are more dedicated than others and define themselves more by their profession than others. Goblin – The Elders say you are the dark brothers of the halflings – like you give a shit!Ĭlasses in Forbidden Lands are called Professions.I advise against this race, but it is available. Orc – Elves and dwarves enslaved your ancestors.Halfling – Everyone is happy and tubby in your family.Dwarf – In the beginning, the god Huge gave your ancestors a small pebble and the task of building a world around it.Half-Elf – You are the best of two kin.Elf – At the dawn of time, you fell like a rain of glimmering rubies, scattered across the land by the Red Wanderer of the Heavens.Human – Humans came to Ravenland, as it was once known, as intruders. The players may be special, or bog standard, or somewhere in between. There is some guidance around primary attributes associated with the kin, and which professions they are typically drawn to, but none of these are rules, just an idea of how the rest of the world operates. The races in Forbidden Lands are called your Kin, and it’s the people with whom you share kinship, essentially. Click on a link in this list to go to the appropriate place on the page. I will provide some detailed information about the items which require it, but here is the rough overview of character creation.
